An Exclusive Interview with Steven Kok and Kenny Hwang of Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing for the Sepang 1000 KM.

I was one of the privileged few to have a special invite to have an exclusive interview with Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing at the epicenter of performance lubricants, Cosmic Elite Enterprise. Team drivers' Kenny Hwang and Stephen Kok were present for this interview session while their 3rd driver Julian had other prior engagements. I gave them a barrage of questions to understand more about teamwork, how to stay cool in hot conditions, and also why Torco Racing Oils are light years ahead of the competition and plans for the upcoming Sepang 1000 KM. The interview is as follows.

The Interview Commences...

Guys, thanks for taking the time out from your busy schedule to do this interview and without further ado, I'll move into the first question. Is this your first outing as Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing?
Yes it is. But prior to this we've been friends for a while now. We were involved in the MME (Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race) since 2008 and we were the support crew for the Kegani team in year 2009.
Prior to this what other racing series have you guys participated in?
Stephen: I was involved in the USTCA series, the AutoCross and also some karting. While I was in the United States, I competed in the SCCA. I'm also an instructor for the HPC (High Performance Challenge) series.

Kenny: I was previously doing the SSO Proton Street Shootouts and was involved with AutoCross for a time. Then there was the time when i was the Rally X Drifting Champ for one time and then I retired.

What car will you be fielding in for the Sepang 1000 KM?
We will be running a Toyota Levin AE 101. It'll be powered by a 1.6 liter silver top race engine with quad throttles.
How is the setup like for the car in terms of engine performance and handling?
For starters its a Toyota 4A-GE race engine that we're honing into our car. To ensure reliability we will limit the revs to 8,000 RPM. The ECU will be from TRD. Handling wise, our chassis strengthening will be done by Ultra Racing. Our suspension will be TEIN setup and brakes will be from XYZ Brakes.
How do you cope with blistering Sepang heat and erratic weather conditions for this endurance race?
Well, we've been undergoing physical training like cardio, gym workouts and also some other forms of sports like cycling to improve our fitness level and our stamina. We train together as a team and that will help us to build teamwork and better understand each other.
There are many oil companies out there who readily sponsor race teams for such events. Why is Torco your oil of choice over the rest?

You're right, there are many oil companies out there and many have approached us. But we're serious about racing and we'd like to obtain the best results possible. So, before we sign up for anything, we do lots of research and look for feedback and reviews on the oils. So far, we've gotten plenty of good feedback from Torco and found out that Torco is very popular in the United States.

We tried Torco oils in our Kookaburra 1 (Toyota Starlet) car and we were very impressed with the performance of Torco Oils. Its value for money. Its a very cheap way to gain Horsepower and Torque.

The competition will be tough for this race. Have you guys thought of any strategies or methods to stay in top contention?
Well, I'd say that the Honda VTEC's are the biggest competition that we have, but we can say, they're definitely not invisible. As professional racers, its also our duty to put on a good show for the audience and let them enjoy proper, good, clean racing and we'll be doing it against the Hondas'.
Besides the Sepang 1000 KM race are you guys involved in other racing series?
Prior to this we were involved in the MME (Merdeka Millennium Endurance) Race as the managing division for a different race team and car.
So what's next for Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing?

Kenny: I'm taking a sabbatical from racing.

Stephen: Me and Julian will be looking forward to the MME and also we will be running as the management team for a Toyota Altezza.

Thank you and all the best for Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing for the Sepang  1000 KM in 2010!
Thanks and hope to see you again soon. All the best to you as well.
