An Exclusive Interview with Kenny Lee of Team Ultra Racing Torco Kegani for the Sepang 1000 KM.

I was one of the privileged few to have a special invite to have an exclusive interview with Team Nexuscraft Kookaburra Racing at the epicenter of performance lubricants, Cosmic Elite Enterprise. Team driver and manager Kenny Lee was present for this interview. I gave him a barrage of questions to understand more about reliability, budget racing, plans for the upcoming MME, and also why Torco Racing Oils are light years ahead of the competition and plans for the upcoming Sepang 1000 KM. The interview is as follows.

The Interview Commences...

Kenny, thanks for taking the time out from your busy schedule to do this interview and without further ado, I'll move into the first question. Is this your first outing as Team Ultra Racing Torco Kegani and could you tell us more about it?
No it isn't. Prior to this we also participated in last year's (2009 Sepang 1000 KM) race where we fielded in 2 cars but this year we will have 4 cars in the race including 1 of our customer's cars which is Team NexusCraft Kookaburra Racing. For this year, in my team, we have 3 drivers from the Asia Pacific region. I will be racing alongside with Chris O' Shanessy from Australia and Hsiao Tung Wei from Taiwan.
Prior to this what other racing series have you guys participated in?
I've been actively racing since 2003 and participated in a few MME (Merdeka Endurance Race) rounds where I was driving the Wing Hin Altezza. I also raced in last year's Sepang 1000 KM in a Toyota Corolla SEG and also raced in a Toyota Levin in 2008.
What car will you be fielding in for the Sepang 1000 KM?
We will be running a Toyota Levin AE 111 and also Toyota Corolla SEG's. It'll be powered by a 1.6 liter silver / black top hybrid race engine with quad throttles.
How is the setup like for the car in terms of engine performance and handling?
For starters its a Toyota 4A-GE race engine that we're honing into our car. I'm targeting around 200 - 210 PS and 17 KG/M of torque on crank for all our cars. The Levin will be equipped with Toda Fightex coilovers while the Corollas will be running on TRD Coilovers. All cars are equipped with Brembo calipers. We're using Adaptronic ECU's all round and our engine revs are set to around 8,500 - 8,700 RPM. Our chassis strengthening is practically done by Ultra Racing from the Roll Cage to the welding and other stuff. Tyres are 15" Federal FZ-201 semi slicks.
There are many oil companies out there who readily sponsor race teams for such events. Why is Torco your oil of choice over the rest?
Our main priority in this race is reliability as this is an endurance race. Torco offers very good consistency in oil temperature and stable performance at high revs. The engine has faster response and the MPZ Magnetic Friction Reducer helps us gain and extra 1 - 2 HP on the dyno which is amazing. I'd say that these factors that make Torco a good choice racing lubricant.
The competition will be tough for this race. Have you guys thought of any strategies or methods to stay in top contention?
Well, I'd say that there aren't many competitors for my team. Our strength is in handling which provides us with good cornering speed. The Honda's from what I noticed do have some gearbox reliability issues, so I believe that gives us some degree of advantage.
Besides the Sepang 1000 KM race are you guys involved in other racing series?
I do a lot of racing in HPC (High Performance Challenge) and now I mainly focus on HPC where it serves as a base to promote rookies and racing enthusiasts to the racing series and beyond. There's also a plan to have a budget Satria One-Make Race for HPC where people can start doing serious track racing with minimal investment.
So what's next for Team Ultra Racing Torco Kegani?

I'll be participating in the MME this year where I'll be driving a Super Taikyu Toyota Altezza which is brought in by Wing Hin. It was formerly the Tom's Castrol No. 36 Altezza and we did some testing in January and more recently April. the car is running fine and is pretty good. I'll be driving alongside Bee Chua and the 3rd driver has yet to be named.

Thank you and all the best for Team Ultra Racing Torco Kegani for the Sepang  1000 KM in 2010!
Thanks and hope to see you again soon. All the best to you as well.
